Soon after her return, her fiancé Gilbert is offered a position in a hospital in New York and he persuades Anne to come with him. The Continuing Story follows the characters from New York, to the Great War in Europe and eventually returns them to the red earth of Prince Edward Island and the home fires of Avonlea.
